Udupi
a land of ethereal beauty, sandwiched between the verdant mountains of the
western ghats on the east and the vast, tranquil Arabian Sea on the west.
This new district, carved out of the erstwhile Dakshina Kannada, which was
more aptly called "Parashurama Srishti", encapsulates the vast cultural
heritage. Udupi is well known for its religious fervour and vividity of
diverse cultural heritage. Udupi, known elsewhere as a Temple City is the
headquarters of the district, known world over to the millions of
connoisseurs of food as the birth place of Udupi Hotels. It never ceases to
enchant visitors from length and breadth of the country and the world over.
It is best known as the seat of Madhwa renaissance, founded by the sage
Madhwacharya, outcome of which are Ashtamathas, located in the famous Car
Street, surrounding the Sri Krishna Temple.

Academically Udupi is the beehive of activity, with MAHE the world renowned
International University with professional Colleges situated few kilometers
away at Manipal. Now, that the district is in its infancy, it is all set for
all round development with the commencement of administrative machinery,
namely Offices of the DC, SP, Zilla Panchayath and various other
functionaries. The district born in year 1997 is already tipped to be a
model for our country in the years to come.
RELIGIOUS RENDEZVOUZ
The
Udupi Sri Krishna Temple, which is synonymous with the name Udupi, is
situated in the Car Street, the hub of religious activity. This is
surrounded by the Eight Matts, founded by the disciples of The great sage
Sri Madhwacharya. Also present in car street are the representatives of
Centuries old Shiva sect. The temples of Sri Anantheshwara and Sri
Chandramoulishwara are thronged by thousands of devotees. An interesting
point to be noted is that Udupi is divinely protected by temples situated
all around Sri Mahisha Mardhini Temple Kadiyali, Sri Indrani Devi Temple.
